Ford Phases Out EcoBlue Diesel: Ranger to Go Hybrid

Dieselspecialists – Ford Phases Out EcoBlue in a significant strategic pivot aimed at transforming its European portfolio. The company announced this week that production of its 2.0-liter EcoBlue diesel engine for the Ranger pickup will cease by early 2026. This marks a critical moment as Ford Phases Out EcoBlue to align with the EU’s increasingly strict emissions regulations and support its transition toward electrification. Instead of the familiar diesel powertrain, customers will soon see the introduction of a Ranger Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), equipped with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine paired with an electric motor.

According to Ford, the PHEV variant will deliver an electric-only driving range of up to 43 kilometers while slashing CO₂ emissions to an estimated 68–72 grams per kilometer drastically lower than the 230 grams per kilometer previously seen in the EcoBlue diesel version. The shift underscores Ford’s ambition to offer cleaner. More sustainable mobility solutions without sacrificing the rugged utility that made the Ranger popular among European consumers.

Why the EcoBlue Diesel Had to Go

The move to phase out the EcoBlue diesel engine is rooted in tightening European emissions targets. With governments pushing for lower carbon footprints. Diesel engines have come under intense scrutiny for their high levels of nitrogen oxides and particulates. Ford Phases Out EcoBlue in direct response to this regulatory landscape and the changing preferences of environmentally conscious customers.
