Dieselspecialists – Stellantis Recalls Over 1 million diesel-powered vehicles in Europe following reports of premature camshaft chain wear in several models produced between October 2017 and January 2023. The affected vehicles include popular models from Peugeot, Citroën, Opel/Vauxhall, DS, and Fiat all equipped with the 1.5 BlueHDi diesel engine.
According to internal assessments, early signs of wear in the camshaft chain could lead to serious engine malfunctions if not addressed. Customers have reported unusual engine noises one of the early symptoms of this defect. Although no accidents or injuries have been reported, Stellantis is taking proactive measures to ensure driver safety and product reliability.
As part of the recall strategy, Stellantis Recalls Over a million vehicles while offering a comprehensive repair program. The remedy involves software updates, oil changes where necessary, and the use of a specialized acoustic diagnostic tool to detect early-stage camshaft chain wear through sound analysis.

Stellantis has pledged to cover 100% of parts and labor costs for affected vehicles. Provided that owners have maintained their service records in accordance with manufacturer guidelines. The free repair coverage is valid until June 2025. Giving owners ample time to schedule appointments at authorized service centers across Europe.
The use of cutting-edge diagnostics reflects the company’s investment in predictive maintenance and customer care. It also underscores the challenges automakers face in balancing innovation with long-term reliability in increasingly complex engines.
The fact that Stellantis Recalls Over a million vehicles highlights growing scrutiny over diesel engines. Particularly in the wake of evolving emissions standards and consumer demand for cleaner technologies. While the 1.5 BlueHDi engine was originally celebrated for its efficiency and emissions control. This recall marks a setback in maintaining customer confidence.
Industry analysts suggest that recalls of this scale may accelerate the automotive industry’s shift toward hybrid and electric alternatives. Especially as governments push for stricter environmental compliance.
As Stellantis navigates this recall, the company’s transparency and customer-first approach may set a precedent for how large automakers handle widespread mechanical concerns in the future.
